Sold / Found / Inactive - 1972 XS2 XS650 SOLD SOLD SOLD

Enjoy...now you'll have to repeat the same answers to the same questions when you take it to your local Cars 'n' Coffee events and love every minute doing it.

I’m young enough that most people don’t bother to ask me about my bikes, I think they figure I don’t know much about em or they don’t belong to me. Who knows. I’ve been riding 60s/70s bikes I’ve built since I was 16. It’s always been the case.

This is the first bike I’ve ever bought that I didn’t need to do anything to. It’s a wild feeling haha. Kinda like buying my first new bike haha.

I put the key in, turned on the gas, pulled the decompression lever and it purred like a kitten.

Close this out. HAHAHA

Well here we go! Yes it’s true sports fans, I’m selling my bikes in order to clear up room in my garage and have a little money in my pocket so I can move on to something new. I’m not going anywhere, I’m learning from Gary, out with the old and in with the new. :D
So without further ado,

1972 Yamaha XS2 ( Mailman’s XS2 )
This was a year long restoration of a low mileage original bike that had been in storage in dry, hot Arizona for 30 years. As much as possible all the original components were gone through and refurbished to as new condition. Nothing was left untouched. The motor was rebuilt with new 2nd over pistons. Here is a list of new parts and work done. I’m sure I’ve forgotten some things. Bottom end was in good condition and untouched.

Yeah that's a beauty. You just don't see many in this kind of shape. Lucky buyer

I had the bike out this past weekend and displayed it in my parents garage sale that the community has every year.
Sweet, .......

Yea, its for sale.
I had $5k on the little sign I made saying it was for sale.
I found pics of the xs1 and xs1b I built a few years ago.
Mark tomlinson did the paint work, Sold them both to the same guy.
The xs1 I built one part at a time, 97% new oem parts.
ill post a pic of the xs2 in question also.
I also have a 71 and 72 frame, swing arm, fork and wheel set assemblies for sale too.
All good titles.

Notice I even had the below tank reflectors on the xs1 and xs1b.
Tomlinson did not do the paint work on my xs2, my uncle Ron McCormick in PA did that paint work for me on the xs2 we are talking about.
The king/queen seat was purchased from Yamaha in Royal oak michigan, the same dealership the bike was bought from.
On the bottom of the king/queen seat there is a sticker saying "Corbia Germany"
The handlebars were also purchased from the same yamaha dealership, in the later months of 1972
I HAVE THE ORIGINAL BILL OF SALE FROM THE DEALERSHIP,
My mother bought the bike for my dad brand new for his birthday on March 3rd 1972.
The front brake master cylinder location on the handlebars may not be the best place for it.
The rear view mirrors are on the bars the way they are because i needed them out of the way while working on it. Easy to reposition them correctly.
Electric start has a glitch, possibly needs replacing but I havent tracked it down. Maybe just a aged wire.
I have a video on youtube showing the first time starting it after 30 yrs in storage and after the restoration.
It was kinda a challenge I had with Mark Tomlinson to see how many kicks it took to start it.
Well, kicked it 3 times with the key "OFF"
Then on the first kick with the key on, started like a charm.
Notice i n the video, I started it when my dad was not home, then he showed up as it was running.
My father gets a little over protective and jumps to conclusions needlessly. lol
Here is the youtube video link

last video, xs1 restoration, 1st start attempt.
2nd over size pistons, compression so hard I almost twisted my ankle starting it.
