1974 tx650a Hotrods316

Yes, I think all XS750 were rear disc.

And I also think this is the answer: 1974 TX500, maybe also 1975 XS500.

Yes. I'm pretty sure that gauge is 74/75 XS/TX 500. They had to have 3 lights in the Tach due to an oil light on the dash where the XS/TX had the tailight warning light

Edit…

Thanks gggGary for the talk. Verified correct points cam orientation.

Hope to have good progress with some actual bike pictures here this weekend!

Thanks all

Ok guys thanks for all the help.
Bike is up and running on stock tank.
Total loss ignition currently.
Read Brakes adjusted to stop decently, may tighten adjuster to get a little more but able to stop decent right now from speed. No lockup or skids, not sure I want that on track yet.

I am now in search of a left upper fork slider tube. Found mine was bent and hidden behind stock light and beauty tube.

Would also be interested for a stock points setup. Got mine as close as can be but running a little more advance than I would like. This may switch to a banshee or electrex depending but figured I would toss that out here too.
And some eye candy as promised thanks again, got my wife on the back and that made all this headache worth it. Now if she’ll get on it again lol

General opinion here is that the stock charging system can't be beaten if it's checked out thoroughly. New brushes, clean and tight electrical connections with standard three phase rectifier and automotive regulator if required. If you need a rotor rewind, Jim of this parish does them. Aftermarket Chinese rotors are to be avoided.

Personally I favour an electronic ignition conversion. The quality of aftermarket ignition system components (points and condensers) has never been lower.

update!
Well the bike performed well. Made it to the race. Did well for 1970 rubber and air lol.
Missed the heat race due to bike being stuck inbetween gears, almost like a neutral. Couldn’t kick it, but push start gave zero engine turn over.
Thanks to some magic worker who got it unstuck and we fired off. Picked up time over the Day and held off the others as their slow chase rabbit lol good healthy fun!!!

Now I’m starting the 19” conversion to do a full convert after racing against a full race xs650 and a bad boy xr750.

Also lookout for over revs at the end of a straight with old drum brakes lol, good pucker factor. Just nearly pooped my pants when the front sprocket came off in my impact without any hammering, that’s always nice what I realized the good that happened.

Will be doing a 520 conversion, trying to figure out sprockets and gearing. Then I’ll do spacers for wheel axle. Might try a swingarm swap too just to make it more fun/difficult. Lol

Not thrilled about the final points timing (too advanced) so looking for NOS points or gonzo or idk

Still thinks she’s too cute to cut up so trying to do everything as near stock

Finishing the hooligan sporty so this is a bit and piece project right now, thanks for checking in and all the help getting me here
