1979 Special - Holey slide diaphragms!

It would seem as though my diaphragms might be better suited for straining pasta. JBM Industries has been mentioned here as a good replacement supplier and I've watched a video where the fellow cuts the plastic ring off to remove them. He goes on to sand away material from the inside of the ring and bevel the edges so that it fits back on loosely. With the help of some silicone grease and what looks like gel superglue he re-installs them with a zip tie. Before I give it a go, is this the way most of you have done this?

I see now that the JBM product does not require the re-installation of the plastic ring.

Much better product overall, I would say. I suppose I've answered my own question again. Apparently, it isn't even necessary to glue them on either.

It is recommended to glue, or if you are happy to try something else, because the slide will spin if it is not fixed to the diaphram

It makes sense to me. Besides, I'm out out of zip ties......
