Hello,

Buddy got one of those aftermarket ign coil set ups to replace the points system.
Well bad idea, that system was much better suited for the worn out wiring harness
He installed it and couldnt get it to run right
So its been about 8 hours trying to figure out what's going on
The coil had a 1.7V drop from batt + to coil +, damn, the ground had about 1.4V drop, just with the key on.
So as you would know the Coil itself had 12 - 1.7 - 1.4 = ~9V, thing would be hot not even doing anything.
It did run and I was adjusting the timing then suddenly it wouldn't start then this is how I found this issue.
Next move is to install a relay in place of the main coil supply so it gets direct batt voltage. Losing 1.7 V is a harness made in the 70s isn't that bizarre.

Anyone run into this before?

Yep. Primary suspects are key switch, fuse box and bad grounds.
