Hey guys, I've got a 79 xs750 that I just cleaned and rebuilt the carbs on and now, the choke wont stay on. The plungers move free as a bird but they won't stay still! I'm sure I probably just put something back together backwards or something. Any help on this would be great. Thanks guys!

Did you remove the choke shaft from the bodies? if so, did you notice a minute little spring and ball fall out somewhere? That's the choke shaft detent mechanism. Ask me how I know. The wise elders on this forum set me straight!

I didn't notice it when I took it apart. There is a spring on the plunger but I never saw a second one. I went ahead and checked the spare carb parts and bodies that I got with the bike and none of those bodies had anything different either.

Can't remember XS750 specifically, but the BS34 carbs with pull-knob choke need the springs and 1/8" balls to engage detents on the rod, while the cable choke models did not have them and the choke position is held by the cable/lever
