Just something to keep in mind - pretty much every one of these 650s needs the top end gone into to replace the front cam chain guide. They're failing due to age. It may not need to be done immediately but will eventually. I rode mine a couple of seasons before I went in there.

Good point 5twins...got in contact with owner..now he wants $1000 for it, he thinks its worth that...i told him its a parts bike non runner everything seized up after three years...good luck with the sale..... thanks again for the help guys..here is a picture what i ride now..

This guy with the 650 will never sell it for more than my offer...my wife said why do you want to buy that pile of junk.... waiting game for now...
The guy is an idiot, if he liked that bike so much why did he let it sit outside near the ocean? I'll tell you why, he doesn't really care all that much about it and he thinks he can sell it to some dreamer for too much.
At the beginning of May I bought a 12K mile '79 that had new tires, but needed paint and a general clean-up for 1K. Included was a box of new parts with receipts for just shy of a grand. I know things out in California are more expensive, I used to live just north of Santa Barbara (Pismo Beach) for most of my life, but junk is still junk and that bike has reached the parts bike stage of it's existence. IMO, $250 was all the money and a better example should be able to be found. Maybe something that hasn't become a garden sculpture.
I just went through the same dance with a guy over a '77 GL1000. Rusty, been sitting is a open lean to for 10+ years and he wanted a grand for it. It was his father-in-laws and had sentimental value to him, not so for me. I carefully explained the actual cost of bringing one back to life and making it roadworthy, but he couldn't bring himself to see what was in front of him. I basically told him that they had let it sit so long that it was now a parts bike with the main value being in what small parts were still salvageable. He got a bit insulted when I said that $400 was all I would pay and that was mainly because I wanted the body.

Highpower i live down the road from Pismo ... Los Alamos...this was a small town, now hollywood is moving here lol...Back to the owner of the 650 he is in his late 50s.. latino his english is not good, seems a nice guy...Three years ago he injured his left hand, so that was the end of riding he can not pull the clutch lever...so he put a cover on bike and started now and again, then one carb started to leak...and there it sat...he said he put money into it..dont we all.....could be a parts bike but i know i could save its life...he has my contact info if he decides to let it go...

Yes, here, the engine on it's own, probably ~£600 to £700.
If California Rust free pipes .. Not seen any for sale for a long time
can be the same $ 600 ..700 Stock re builders may pay for those

The cluster is not original so what miles on the engine, cam tensioner would need replacing ...he turned down 400 ..not going higher for a non runner plus 3 years DMV fees
Let me know if you can bet ahold of any 1050 parts that they may have laying around.
