1981 SX650 Special for sale. $1200 $1000 for offer. Hopefully I can get this to who loves the XS650 and wants one intact and near original I'm 67, a driveway mechanic with a sore back. I built my garage out years ago and now I regret it. My son recommended I ride more and wrench less. (Let it go dad.) I rode a 2004 Harley Roadster the last two years. I purchased this motorcycle this March 2021 with 27700 miles and rode her close to 6K. This is a good opportunity if you want to get into vintage MC’s. Hopefully, however gets it will keep her intact.
Included:
  • Valid Title
  • $500 Mikuni Carb kit purchased and installed a year ago.
  • (I never really got them synced all the way. Definitely added some snap to the ride)
  • Original Carbs (need work). Many extra parts
  • Extra TCI black box in working condition.
  • Lower case with gears with a nice lower cam chain and guide (someone may have been starting a rebuild?)
  • Extra clean looking cylinder head with matching cover ( I snagged these along with two lower cases of Facebook. This may have new valves installed, but If I was an expert, I wouldn't be re-homing the bike now).
  • Starts and runs
  • Another lower case and cylinder head
  • OEM master cylinder and lever for rebuild
  • Extra mirrors and taillights
  • Stud set from 1977 engine.
  • Extra Kick starter mechanism
  • Extra OEM rotor (needs rewound
  • Two sets of pod air cleaners.
Work and improvements I did:
  • Installed new clutch screw lever and guide rod and seal
  • New clutch and throttle cable. Shifts well.
  • re-installed all the safety relays
  • after I did that, my headlights, tail lights and blinkers worked well
  • Installed a new wiring harness
  • Changed front fork oil
  • Replaced OEM shocks with Hagon Shocks
  • Installed Nissin V Star Master cylinder with braided brake line.
  • Replaced glass fuses with blade fuses (pretty ugly job)
  • Made a regulator rectifier per directions on XS 650 Forum
  • Installed new petcock and new round slide Mikuni 34
Brakes work well. Starter needs adjustment. Nice shocks. Battery removed. Shines up real nice.... Has a lot of patina.
Good chrome. Blue paint job was awesome but was abused by storage. Tank O.K. Bike needs a top end refresh or new valve seals.
If you respond, please be patient. I still work and sometimes can't

Looks like a good deal to me. And just to respond to this...

Bought a re-wound alternator from forum member, when I got it, the ring test yielded 4.4 ohms, less than recommended. I went with it anyway

Since I'm the only one here who rewinds rotors, I'm assuming it's one of mine. I've never sent out a rotor that was less than 4.9Ω (within book tolerance)
My rewinds are measured using a Fluke that cost me about 300 bucks over ten yrs ago.... and it still has the calibration sticker from my last employer.
Flukes are considered the gold standard when it comes to electronic measuring equipment. If you're measuring with a cheap Chinese meter... well, guess which one I believe... ;)

$50 multimeter no way did I mean to demean your work. respect for you only. don't think I should have written that in hindsight....
