I bought both the oil filter that goes in the right side case, and the one that goes in the sump, since I didn't know the history of the engine in my 72 project. The bottom sump screen assembly is self explanatory and I have no questions on that. The old filter in the right case, however, had a gasket on the inner surface, which I was not able to save. The new filter did not come with a gasket, so I'm curious if there is actually supposed to be one there. Also, the manual mentions being careful to not damage the O ring when removing the cover. I did not have an O ring anywhere in there. I'm assuming that they might be referring to the round gasket in the recess of the case cover that the round cover butts up to, and calling it an O ring ??? Is that it, or am I missing an O ring.
