2024 Yamaha XS650 Society Inaugural Westby WI Rally. Sept 8th though Friday Sept 13th

In Westby the gas station / convenience store was handy and if we stay at a place that has a restaurant they might not want us grilling outside:umm:
Westby treated us nice. Free ice, coffee and pastries. Very reasonable rates.
Across the street from the Country Gardens is a gas station/convenience store. If we are booking 4+ rooms for 4+ nights they probably won't say anything about a grill. I'm sure we would utilize the bar/restaurant from time to time.
My question is is the location good for the roads we want to ride?

Problem is not stepping on toes for other scheduled events. I am not good at politics in this situation as there is an established rally near or on these dates. I am not good at navigating these waters and I have navigated boats for 50 years....

$80 one queen
$100 for two queens.
Seems you have previous experience there. Am I right? That being said there is a park in the area IIRC that grilling could occur if the cook chef comes out with a fire extinguisher. Or have a dozen extra so the dining room can write in a "Special"! I was satisfied with our Norske Inn accomodations but am not "married" to any fixed point. I can save $ on the single queen and @Ben1 can sleep in his car. :smoke:

My main concern is location pertaining to the roads we want to ride. I do not know the area well enough to have a opinion. Extra 40ish bucks a night is not a deal breaker.
I did not find a road that was not to my liking. There is a "ladder" of interesting road between the Mississipi an Hwy27. Take one rung over, run down the Mississippi 5 or 10 miles and run another road back to 27. Down 27 5 or 10 miles and west to the Mississippi again. Rinse, repeat... That was @Ben1 and my plan for Friday riding. When Dan showed up we knew "Wildcat Mountain" was a sure thing to show a new fella and he loved it.
On the week we went Northwest, North East and Southeast. We never went Southwest and it seems there is very nice riding there too.

Untimely the decision will be yours and Ben's. I don't think you can make make a bad decision. Very nice area and a lot of nice roads. The hotels by the nature of their business like tourists. I'm sure many more tourists than business people stay in that area. It's nice that you are receptive to peoples thoughts. Someone will have to make the call and that be you.:yikes:

@gggGary posted this listing. Did I miss an endorsement from him or is posting it an endorsement. I am new at this. That motel does have "open to the outside" rather than hallway access. The location is great, I could go there aĺ day. We would have to go back to the Norske occasionally to see if Julie was checked in....

:twocents: just me? But a gathering area a bit more pleasant than a parking lot, idling trucks, and a fence would be
Thought the rooms, cleanliness etc were all fine at the Norski.
Kevin et-al did good!
Will be riding some of that area again tomorrow, I'll keep an eye out for possibilities.
It's huge area, we just scratched a little bit of it. basing from a different city/town/motel each year might keep things fresh?

Not to mention if they don't know us......

@Ben1 's info was there was an "unofficial" highway marker erected by a grandson with a lot of politically incorrect language. It may exist but we found a "sanitized for public consumption" actual state memorial.
Also the guy that told me about the memorial sent me the picture of the earlier/ unofficial version, Reads the same but well non PC.

My current thought is we don't need to be married to a hotel/location. The Soldiers Grove idea has merits and local knowledge made a suggestion. We saw 10% (?) of the Driftless area, why confine ourselves.

About a week ago I realized I hadn't donated to this site in quiet some time, so I Paypal'd 10 bucks to it. I think we all need to be mindful of how lucky we are to have this site and to do our bit to keep it afloat.

Pardon my ignorance, didn't know that was a thing. I have now done my bit to keep it floating, because I am mindful of how lucky we are to have this site and the content contributors that frequent it.

I finally decided awhile ago to just have the donation just happen ( via PayPal) every year instead of me trying to remember at what date I should donate again
And of course in my haste to do that I didn't check when I donated last
So it now seems like I have now double donated for the time being
Life is short and I've done dumber things on occasion in the past and this site is worth it !!
