I love the story behind it and that someone treats a beautiful motorcycle so well for 52 years without being swayed by any fashion trends . The normal case was that they were replaced after 10 years at the latest because they were old, backward iron. Marketing has done a great job there, just like everywhere else..
Thanks for the nice words, it is very sad how technology has change the way we look at things. Back in the early 90's I had a flutter with a more modern bike and purchased a Honda VFR, a nice bike to ride, it certainly handled and stopped a lot better than the XS. But there is something special about the XS 650 and I was always drawn back to it. The VFR has long gone the XS still takes pride and place in my garage. A friend for life.

I voted for your bike because of the black headlight shell and ears instead of electricpoet's bike. I see that electricpoet has more votes for almost the exact bike with all matching 'tins'. Good luck to each entry, both are amazing.
That's why we vote though...:)
Thanks for your vote, the electricpoet's bike is a beautiful machine and a worthy leader in the voting thus far. The black headlight shell and supports came about back in 83 when I was collateral damage in a car accident. I was pretty lucky to walk away from that one but the bike needed some repairs and I preferred the look of the black.

Yes, me, but I'm probably the cause myself. I'll first show the problem to a friend who is more familiar with those things
