50 Years of the Yamaha XS650 - Paris Ontario - June 2020

That would be a nice road trip for her JesseeS!

On the whole matter of the Paris Rally, I know that quite a number of Forum members are planning to come - and believe me, you’d be most welcome in normal times.

However, with all the cancellations due to the COVID19 pandemic, it is not entirely clear to me that the Rally will actually be held this year - or at least, not in June of 2020.

Please know that I am monitoring the situation and am in touch with the CVMG executive who, as I understand it, are meeting very soon to make a decision.

As soon as the decision is available, I will post it here and I’ll also ask the moderators to plunk it right on the opening page of the Forum.

Kind regards to you all (well, to almost all of you),

Pete

Honestly why even bother to hope that is is going to go ahead..............projectury is still skyrocketing and does for at-least 2 weeks after a country completely shuts down and then it takes another couple of months before it even looks like there can be any lifting of some restrictions.............

NZ shut down the economy and told people to stay at home when they only had about 10-20 cases and now they are into the hundreds after a week of isolating.............

Because I’m an optimist Skull - sorry to pop YOUR bubble.

Greg - we’ll ride this summer or fall - that seat will come in handy.

OK folks - here is the official and latest word from the executive of the Canadian Vintage Motorcycle Group (www.CVMG.ca):

Dear CVMG members:

AN OPEN LETTER ABOUT THE CVMG NATIONAL RALLY
Good morning.

I hope you are keeping well and using this chance to work on all those projects you don’t usually have time for.

Your Paris Rally committee has received a number of questions about this year’s Rally - will it happen, will we be able to travel, how safe is it, etc. I will tell you that we are actively looking at all options in this environment where uncertainty is the only sure thing.

For a number of reasons, the options are narrowing down to two:
a) hold the Rally on its original date, or
b) postpone CVMG's 48th National Rally and hold it on the usual Fathers’ Day weekend next year.

Obviously, we would like the Rally to go ahead this year, but only if there is wide assurance it is safe to travel and to be together. Postponing the Rally is a last resort, as it has financial and scheduling challenges. The one thing I can commit is that we will make a decision and we will let you know by May 1 at the latest.

That should give everyone time to get ready. Thank you for your patience as we work through this unprecedented situation.

If you have any questions, please contact the Rally committee at parisrally@cvmg.ca

So, we don’t have a definitive answer quite yet, but when we do, I’ll get the word out chop-chop.

One silver lining is this cloud is that I have it on good authority that if the CVMG does decide to cancel this years event, the featured marque for the June 2021 Paris National Rally will be....the iconic and immortalYamaha XS650.

So, we’re not dead yet and even if we do die this year, WE’LL BE BAAAACK!

DEAR ALL:

Word came down this morning that the 2020 CVMG Paris National Rally has been cancelled until approx. the same dates next year in June 2021.

Obviously this is a disappointment and I apologize to all those who made travel plans, but....

More to come when information is available.
Pete

Crap. I was planning to go :-(

Yup - a bummer for sure. However, NEXT years 2021 event will feature: 50 years of the iconic Yamaha XS650!! - so we all have something to look forward to!

Watch this space!

Cheers,

Pete

Well.....dammit - yer not comin' over. :cussing:

I just received this message from the CVMG Paris National Rally Committee....

Dear Pete:
Regrettably, the 2021 Rally has been postponed for another year due to the current situation with which we are all too familiar.
You are registered for the 2022 Rally. Everything will remain the same with the XS650 as the marque bike.
Should you decide that you would like a refund, please reply to this email.
Stay safe and wear a mask.
Paris National Rally Committee

All I can say is...:poo:

OK - now that I have that off my chest: I must say that I simply cannot disagree with this decision. I know that the CVMG wrestled with this and tried to put off the decision until the very last moment just in case the situation here and abroad turned around (and it certainly is improving day-by-day) - but at this point in time, this is the right move to keep everyone safe and healthy.

At least we have the news that the 2022 Paris National Rally will still feature the indomitable Yamaha XS650 as the featured marque under the banner "52 Years of the Iconic Yamaha XS650!" - so that means - we're still on for Father's Day weekend of 2022!

Until then, I remain,
....a very disappointed,
Pete

PS - I will try to arrange for a horrendous thunderstorm that weekend so that @GLJ will feel comfortable riding here from Illinois in 2022.

Pete; I just couldn't bring myself to like your post.
Think we need to get busy and start planning the Ozarks rally. I'm 'bout 100% on going, jetmarty claims he is, GLJ is showing strong signs.

Thanks Gary - I appreciate the sentiment.

As for the Ozark Rally - I would LOVE to go - but the blinkity-blank border is still closed and so depending on when it opens and what is happening then, count me in.

Having said that, I have two grandbabies on the way in May-June both of whom I'd like to be able to go and see (and the two-week quarantine would do me in).
