I am assembling my XS2
It has the stock size sprockets, will a 530 O-ring chain clear the cases when it goes around the countershaft sprocket (17 tooth) ?

I installed a JT Sprockets 530 X-Ring chain on my ‘77. All the dimensions of the case should be the same through all the model years. This chain was much larger than a non o ring chain and I did have some interference with the shift shaft guard. I wrote about it here, plus there are a lot of photos regarding the clearance. This is a stock 17 tooth front sprocket with a 31 tooth rear sprocket. This is my only experience with an O- Ring chain on a vintage bike. Other chains may differ in their dimensions?

Hi Sparky,
yes, a 530 O-ring chain's heavy duty side-plates will clear the cases,
You may have to reduce the shifter guard rubber's thickness or discard it entirely.

Gary, do you have a brand preference for chains?
The lowest price? Depends on the intended use, a bike like WJL that might see a thousand miles in a year, different than a bike I'm planning to tour on. So far the Volar have done me proud and they are not expensive.
The norton got DID #50 from farm and fleet  ( not the cheap agmaster:laughing:) but it's a get by chain cuz getting to the front sprocket on that will be a winter project.
