I've just been made aware that left hand early side panels are about as rare as rocking horse manure, while right hand ones are fairly common.
A quick check on the auction sites has confirmed this.
And while there are maybe a few NOS items available, I'm not inclined to part with $400 (+shipping +import duties) for a lump of pressed steel sheet.
Is anyone making/selling any replica covers yet ?

No replica that I know of. Ebay has them. Some at a good price and other not so much.
What covers do you need?

I'm building up a '71 XS1B.
I've been promised a RH cover off a XS2 today (which I believe is the same) but the guy has no LH covers.

the 70 top bolt shank has a smaller ID but no one would ever know.
73 covers also same with a different set of drilled trim holes.

I'd sussed out the trim holes on the TX650 but I didn't know the top bolt altered. Thanks!
I'm wondering if GRP would be a good material for a replica.
BSA made their side panels out of GRP for years.
Only trouble is I'd have to get a good panel to take a mold from :banghead: :banghead:
I believe that the chromed trim is the same as fitted to the contemporary YDS7 and YR5 so not too difficult to find

Thanks Grewth - appreciate the reply.
Im building a 77D and i want to "play" with the style a bit which includes the 650 early flash which im hoping to fit to the 77D sidecovers.
I love that style.
