72 xs2 bogs down and backfires out of carbs, out of ideas

I got 13.2 to 14.4 Volts using your test on both points. My new condenser arrives next week so I will see if that makes a difference.
With the engine running?

If there isn't any sparking across the points gap with the engine running, the condensers are probably good. In my experience, a bad condenser is obvious due to the big fat sparks as the points open.

Sorry for butting in Jan_P.
Nothing to be sorry about Cooperation for Progress
We have Coil resistance
We have Voltage on Points
Now the lead is the Condenser .based on experience Others chime in with their experience
Normal solution process ..checking and then moving on to next issue

Getting this show on the road so to speak

I have checked the original condenser with this method: http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/ignition/ig128.htm

Mine seems to have good voltage but it is hard to tell because my multimeter doesn’t go high enough in range. I will replace it anyways and test start again.

UPDATE: I installed a brand new regulator rectifier and now she won’t start at all. I get one gunshot type backfire when I kick it over and nothing else.

Checked timing and it was good. Any ideas?

That's usually the result of crossing the coils. Left goes right and right to left.
Did you have the wiring between the points and coil disconnected? If you did I'd look for those wires being crossed.

You were right! Started up but it still has the same bog as before, anything past half throttle bogs and eventually dies.

So the symptoms are still the same.

I also noticed some fuel leaking out of my carb vent tubes on the last start. Should I pull carbs and confirm float bowl height? I’m running PWK 32’s from Mikes.

I haven't read through this whole thread, so pardon if this has already been discussed....

I just noticed you're from Colorado. Don't know what part, but if you're at 5-6000 feet, your carbs are prolly a little rich. Like 1 or two jet sizes too rich.
Also not familiar with the carbs that MikesXS sells or if they jet them specific to the XS. But if they do, they likely jet for sea level.

I had to re jet the carbs when I first got them but everything was running fine until this bog developed. See the original post I made. The carbs are PWK 32’s (flat-slides) that Mikes jets for our bikes (they included 3 jet choices with the carb set).

Feels . a bit strange that both sides not working all of a sudden -- But if petrol is flooding ...Sure it can be the carburetors
have a sneaking suspicion that it still is something with the Points or Electrical

If I recall correctly, there are threads here from 10 years or more ago about those Taiwanese imitation Keihin flat slide carburettors. Almost nobody ever seems to have got them running correctly. Could be worth the OP doing a forum search and a bit of reading about those carburettors?
