20210702_203108.jpg 20210702_203211.jpg Hi, so here we go. A few years ago I bought a basket case XS2. It literally came in boxes. The seller had said that the front rim had been bent in an accident and he had included a replacement as well as the original disc that was on the bike. Well the original disc is the floating type and the rim he found to replace the bent one has the disc attached. Because the "floater" had a hollow shaft that ran through the right fork leg with the axle running through that, I'm sure a spacer or the shaft itself would need to be used if I could make the 73 work. Has anyone replaced their 72 rim with a later model wheel? It's either make it work, get new fork legs, or find a new wheel and hope there is no play where the rotor fingers meet the hub.

I know this is an old post... It looks like you have a 74 or later wheel. I have a 73 on my 72. I am 99% certain because I bought a front clip with blue headlight ears on it. That should have made it a 73 going by the color.

A 73 "front clip" would be bolt on to a 72 frame. Mixing wheel, axle, rotor, or the RH fork leg between those two years does not go well.

Comparing the hub I have from the wrecked wheel from my 72 vs. the 73 shows virtually no difference. I still have the fork bottoms... I will have to take a look.

Most of the parts fiches mis-show 73 parts as continuing on the design used for the 72's only.
72 rotor is a full floating design connected to the hub only via two rubber padded tabs. 73 on the rotor bolts to the hub.

Gents, if the question was whether a later rim could be used, then the answer is yes, any OE XS650 19" rim from any model except the Heritage Special will lace up on the early hub. Seems the OP was confused as to the difference between a rim and a hub and a wheel, which might explain the lack of response.

Yes it is a full floating disk. I have both 72 and what I think is a 73 hub.

Yes that’s what I have. I was under the impression I bought a 73 front end due to the color of the headlight brackets. Only the 73 was blue wasn't it? I wonder if there was a break mid production year. The two hubs I have only have small differences that do not affect mechanics or performance.

That's a really old pic but I think I still have it, actually I have a complete 72 front end, triples down. less caliper and fender.
I actually only need the hub and disk. I have an extra rear hub and I was thinking about building a set of aluminum wheels.
