Hi All,

I’ve just finished a winter refresh of my 73 TX650.

This bike is so good to ride that I thought it justified the time and money it needed to make it really nice. So, I’ve had every chromed item re chromed to a high standard.

The Headers are the original OEM items which I’ve had re chromed but the silencers were beyond repair so I replaced those with new ones, other than that I’ve kept everything original but made it nice again.

The only items I didn’t re chrome were the side panel trims and a couple of the indicator mounting oval plates!

I hope you like it.

Hi Guys,

Yes, the silencers were bought from Mikes XS over in the USA. The shipping was very expensive but the silencers are decent quality, fit well and are a very good reflection of the original shape.

I‘d buy more spares from the same source if the shipping was more reasonable.

When the sun shines over here in the U.K. I’ll get the bike outside and take some more photos of it when I can get the full view.

Cheers.

Beautiful machine!
Can't wait to see the pics out in the sun when you get them. Especially if it's parked in front of a cool landmark. Congratulations on your accomplishments maintaining your bike and making it better than new.

Hi,

I bought the bike back in 2019/2020 and it was in a very poor condition. It was an import from the US and had been stood in a barn since 1984.

I did post some earlier threads with photos of it as I got it and how I restored it and now I’ve just had all the chrome work re plated it’s sort of finished it off and I’m happy with it.

I think from memory it has around 17,000 miles on the clock and it runs like a dream, just so nice to ride!

I like to keep busy and I’ve just finished another restoration a few weeks ago but I’m afraid it’s not a Yamaha. Lockdown has meant that I’ve spent much more time in the garage getting my bikes as I want them.

I just need some good weather now and I’ll hit the road.

Regards.

This is the bike when I got it!

Hi cra-z1,

The latest complete restoration is a 77 Z1000A1.

I had the paintwork re finished a couple of years ago but to get the bike as I want it it’s just had a full engine out restoration.

Full engine strip and rebuild, frame and running gear powder coated. It had alloy wheels on it so I found an appropriately dated pair of Takasago rims, had them re chromed and built them onto a pair of hubs I restored.

Everything chromed has been re chromed and I re covered the seat.

It goes really well and I think it also looks the part.

Hope you like the photos.

I just got with my 75 z1 and waiting for the weather to warm to start it for the first time since rebuild. Got it from the original owners estate who passed. Its a total rebuild also. I have 4 Z1 bikes at the moment and have sold 2 of them in the past. Im also trying to compleate a 82 GS1100GL in the next month.

Hi cra-Z1,

I guessed you were a Kawasaki guy, they’re nice bike for sure and yours looks stunning!

We share a number of tastes as I also have a mint, unrestored GS1000G from 1982. Totally untouched apart from a repaint of the front/top of the engine with 16000 miles on it from new. It came into the U.K. from Italy in the early 90’s.

I have a small stable of bikes which I love to ride and they’re mainly bikes I wanted when I was younger but couldn’t afford then, now that I’m an “old git” I can work in the garage whenever I want.

Regards.

That GS1000 looks fantastic. The GS1100GL im working on will have a little little different look from stock. I normally try to go back to original but decided to put a different seat/handlebars,and exhaust (4 into 1) on the GS1100. Im waiting on a rear cam chain guide form the UK to finish. Parts are getting hard to find. I ended up with a 2mm Wisco overbore on this one.
