Hi All,
I’m looking into fitting a second disc on the left hand side of my 73 TX.
Has anyone out there, preferably U.K./Europe, (trying to keep shipping costs low) got a good OEM disc and cast iron caliper they would like to part company with? Beer tokens waiting!

I’m not too bothered about having to rebuild the caliper internally but would prefer it to be on its original external finish.

The disc is the earlier two part item I’m looking for.

I would also need the correct disc mounting bolts as well if available.

Please let me know if you can help.

Best Regards
Pete.

Make sure of the disk size that is already on the bike. may only be the 73/74 euro models, with the large 295, single front disk Euro front disks on 75-76 standards, (the 2 piece rotor for your bike), are small rotors..............................unlike the us models with a single disk that was 295mm.

This also transfers onto the front forks. The Caliper mount position on the forks, change depending on the size of the rotor

Euro 74 is an odd year on the world ID chart. I have not recorded anyone ever posting about this year/model, so the front rotor is unknown to me.

75/76 English/Euro front twin disk rotors.

For comparison with the Euro 75/76 front rotor.............72 Front rotor, Not compatible or interchangeable with later models, a one year only disk

Compare the profile on the inner part of the rotor between yours and a potential purchase

Hi 650skull,
Many thanks for your reply and I’m really grateful that you’ve pointed out the subtle differences between the braking systems.

I’ve been to check my bike and I can confirm that the disc fitted already is 295mm diameter and 7.15mm thick.
The bike is a US import to the U.K. and I’m convinced the brakes on it are from new. It was manufactured in September 1972.

I have enclosed some images below.

I am assuming that a standard disc of the same design an dimensions will bolt onto the existing hub once the outer alloy cover has been removed and that the caliper can be made to be “Handed” by inserting the mounting bolts in different positions.

If anyone can help with the correct parts as per the above images please let me know.
If anyone in the US can help, I’d consider stumping up for postage if the correct items were available.
Many Thanks
Pete.

Sorry i never answered back.

Your Sep 72 is a 73TX front end.

The hub cover plate on the opposite side to the rotor does cover the holes that another rotor can be bolted on to make the bike a twin disc setup.

The caliper top bolts can be swapped side to side to make the caliper sit either side for the twin disc setup.

From the factory the calipers are made as a left and right. Where the tabs for the brakes pads stick out of the caliper the gap is small and when swapping the caliper to the other side this gap has to be worked on to enlarge it so the brake pad tab doesn't foul. .......Don't have a pic but you will see what i mean when you mess around with them

Hey there, I’m in the US. Easton, Pennsylvania to be exact. Let me get you an estimate on shipping, I’ll get back to you asap
