Hey I just got an xs650 this year, everything was running great until i did a late night highway run at about 80-90 miles/hour for an hour or two. the bike then died out when coming to a stop, I got it running again and brought her home. my oil level was below the low mark on the dip stick and I topped up the oil with Shell Rotella T6 synthetic, but questioned myself and brought it in to a shop for a oil change and they changed the little crescent moon filter(image of dirty one attached) but not the bottom sump filter which i think i should take out and change/inspect. i did another 100-200miles after the oil change but then noticed a light rattle like noise at elevated rpms.I do not hear it at low idle but about 2000rpm and above i hear it. I am currently trying to upload the video somewhere so i can post a link to the sound.
Thank you for any advice or ideas.

attached is a link to video with sound of the issue, as im not sure how to post videos directly to here.

yes the dust in the filter attaches to a magnet, and the dust seems to be both black and a metallic color

Okay thank you, this gives me a good idea to diagnose but doesn't sound like an easy fix at all, i guess there isnt any way to check this tensioner without opening the engine up.

thank you

First step is remove the sump plate to see what is in the oil pump inlet strainer. Probably bigger pieces of what you found in the side oil strainer.

okay do you guys seem to have a preference over parts suppliers? ive purchased some things from mikes XS but Heiden tuning looks pretty good.
the parts im looking at are:
https://www.heidentuning.com/xs650-...am-chain-kit-219ft-xs-performance-detail.html
or the comparable parts from mikes XS, which are a little bit cheaper but closer to ship.

Also yes the idle was a bit high, i adjusted that the last ride because it died pulling up to a stop sign i thought the idle was low but it had more problems than just the idle.
