82 Xs650 Special Float height? Info :)

The wires should be aligned or behind the terminals instead of against the cover? And the contact points are "apex" and "rubbing block?"

What small x-Head screw?

Loosen wires' attachment bolt/nut and reposition terminal on the bolt head side, between bolt head and insulating washer

The apex is spot on the cam that causes greatest opening against the rubbing block. The plate moves and changes opening amount. Set at .014" max as apex rotates past rubbing block in normal direction (using rotor bolt on crankshaft)

I don't have a wrench small enough for those terminal nuts. There's no screwdriver slot on them. I'm guessing it's a 1/8. I didn't even know anyone manufactured screws/bolts that small. So I'll buy what I need tomorrow and return to this repair then. Thanks for everything.

You need a metric ignition wrench set, one that has sizes down to 4 and 5mm. That little nut and bolt is one of those sizes. I highly recommend a used older Craftsman set because each wrench has a different size on each end. The new sets have the same size on both ends of each wrench. That's no good if you have to hold the bolt while you tighten the nut, you can't do it. This is the set you want .....

You can find them on eBay .....

5twins, thank you.
4mm is 5/32 or so speaks the almighty web gods. So I'm wrong? It's not a 1/8 that I need but a 5/32?

IIRC some are 5mm or about 7/32 - likely why 5twins mentioned getting both. They're hard to find @ local big box

So these are...?

When I took it off the 650 several weeks ago I had remembered where they went. But as I wrote, life interfered with me getting back to the bike in a timely manner.

Too long a vacation? ;)

They appear to be fuel lines from petcock to carb fuel inlet.

Sorry for the delay. I was giving God his due. He saved my son's life when he was shot last November. And God has been good in countless other ways.

It was 5.5mm or 7/32.

This is the best I can do. There is not enough clearance to move the top wire.

Also, I have two other tubes. I thought they went to the petcock.

So long as the right wire terminal doesn't hit the cover (and short to ground) it'll be ok.

The carbs appear to be upside down... the tube from the intake may go to petcock too if vacuum operated.

So, I'm about to go for a short ride; be back in ~ 1hr:bike:

Both wires should be like that, laid against the spring steel strap so they make good contact with it. That insures good contact to the point itself.

Just about every thing that could go wrong, did, in putting the carbs back right. Lost (but now found) hardware, opened (but now bandaged) lacerations and acute soreness (and still the same).

Anyway... not a long vacation. My sewage pipes and my roof developed leaks while in was in the mountains. I had to put working on the bike on hold. I should have taken photos! And then when I got back to the 650 I made careless mistakes from frustration!

So you're saying the big hoses go from the petcock to... Where?. Which end goes to the petcock? And there are these smaller hoses. Where do they attach?

Right where those 2 tubes are cut off in pic
BS38 fuel inlets.jpg

the tube out of the side of the filter should go to the petcock.
The vacuum tubes from the intake go to the small spigots on the forward side of each petcock.
