So while I have the front end of the '74 torn apart, I was thinking of throwing on a set of new bars with fresh, non-pitted chrome. But I haven't been impressed with a lot of the chrome items I've purchased within the last few years, specifically mirrors. It seems no matter how thoroughly or often I wax them, they develop surface rust and pitting within a year or 2. The bike lives under cover but isn't in climate control, so it see's ambient humidity here in the mid-Atlantic (I'm not near the coast, so salt isn't really a factor. When I was in Jacksonville, FL in the early 90's, salt was a major factor- stuff rusted up quick!)
I'm also curious as to "rise" and "pullback" when it comes to bars. "Rise", I assume, is the distance from the top of the center mounting section to the highest portion of the bar. Or is it the distance to the first bend only? (1st pic total "rise" 6.5", 2nd pic just to the first bend, 4 3/4"-5").
And "pullback"- measure from the center of the bars to the rear most point at the ends? 3rd pic, looks like 6 3/4"-7".
Overall distance end to end is 29"- I'm happy with these dimensions, and they appear to be the original bars, I'm just trying to get as close as I can based on web descriptions/data. But I really don't want to be addressing rust a year from now, I can keep these bars and do that.
Really appreciate any thoughts on the topic.
