Ageing out or The Crossroads

And now to add insult to injury I've developed a sciatic nerve pain on my left side. Ugh!
I’ve been dealing with that since age 29. I started CrossFit at age 60 and as long as I stay at it, I have zero issues with sciatica. I’m not suggesting you need to go to CrossFit, but the solution is exercise, probably a mix of stretching and strength training. Maybe yoga. Wife of Grizld1 turned it off for me at a party in Dahlonega. I lied down on the floor and she pulled my leg by the heel. A couple of tugs and the pain was gone. Temporarily. At any rate, living with the pain is up to you. If you can still ride a motorcycle, you can do what it takes to turn off sciatic pain.

Best wishes!

On my way to 54, but I definitely feel older... plenty of broken bones over the years, military service, career as an auto tech, surgery for a fully ruptured PT tendon in my left leg which left me with nerve damage, and now my rotator cuff in my left shoulder is torn. Planning to ride as long as my body lets me, hopefully well into my 70s.

Kicking and screaming, my crazy days have passed but then it's yet to come,
Back in it now but wait there's more. If you act right now...
I'll hate it and regret the day if it happens (dumbass me).
Wife, kids' grandchildren, hell dads still alive. siblings, bummer.
Yeah regret, but they also know me. It's been expected since 68 I wouldn't make it.
They didn't think I'd make ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty' Sixty, NoWay!!!
Boy I sure fooled them!
The odds are stacked against us (me), there's some stupid ------ out there
waiting around every turn. Mostly I just putt,
I know I'm not a bumble and I don't bounce as well as I used to
but then there's that twisty thing in my hand and... Ye Ha.
You have to polish the skills every now and then don't cha know.:bike:
And yup that does include slow speed and tight maneuvers, hard stops.
Running lighter bikes that don't demand as much.
I haven't hit that day yet, hopefully never. Time will tell.
All my respect truly.
Riding or not, teach what you know. we're a dying breed.

I'm 74 and riding my Hinckley Tiger 1050 to Alaska this August. Cheating a bit by towing it to N.Dakota. WTF, now or never!
Agree with Jet about staying active. I bicycle 12 mi 3-4 times a week, and hit the gym 2 times a week. Makes for good afternoon naps! Gotta keep moving or you rust up.
I had 1 bad knee, then bought my TX650.
Now I have 2 bad knees!
I haven't talked to anyone who's had a good experience with knee replacement, so I'm sticking with OEM until...

That’s my sentiment. I had x-rays about six years ago showing I was bone on bone. The doc said I’d never squat. My chosen path has been an anti inflammatory diet and exercise. Yes, the squats hurt, but I do it anyway. The result is that I can bend my knees normally very deeply without pain. I have no knee pain operating a motorcycle.

My ACL is gone with a torn miniscus, so deep knee bends with that weight just re injures old damage. I do a lot of reps w/ leg presses & knee curls 50#. Amazing how quickly I atrophy when I stop. Ah, 74!
Personally, I think bicycling is really key. At PT, they heat your knee, then put you on a bike to loosen, before rehab exercises. Toughest knee exercise is a grand child!

Just turned 78 and still have 5 projects and 2 runners, I plan to reassess the situation when I get to 80. Bought a '14 FJR late last fall just so I'd have something to gas and go.
This month, being tempted by 2 disassembled '78's 4 hours north of here, but the blue van doesn't have a/c.
Really believe that when you run out of things to do, you're done for.

Every day, you work through your To Do list and that's how you measure progress. But I realised a long time ago, you don't ever really want to get to the end of that list.

TO OLD TO WORK, TO YOUNG TO DIE.

Some of you know I closed my own business in January 2024 after 7 years of struggle through Brexit then COVID.
I then helped out a friend working as a self employed retail consultant, running a store whilst negotiating the sale of the building to the Triumph Motorcycle business next door; my last of work day was 15/03/2025. Many job applications and letters to trade friends resulted in no further work due to the trade I know tanking.

Good news is that on Monday next week I start work as a Sales Executive for Triumph Motorcycles, for the business that took over the building I helped sell to them.

A dream job for me and I cannot wait to get started.

Anyone up to buy a loaded Triumph Rocket 3?

Thanks, I hope I can deliver the sales!

Stay true to your dealers. They are what make it all work. They have a history of indifference to them in the US.
