Ageing out or The Crossroads

TO OLD TO WORK, TO YOUNG TO DIE.

Some of you know I closed my own business in January 2024 after 7 years of struggle through Brexit then COVID.
I then helped out a friend working as a self employed retail consultant, running a store whilst negotiating the sale of the building to the Triumph Motorcycle business next door; my last of work day was 15/03/2025. Many job applications and letters to trade friends resulted in no further work due to the trade I know tanking.

Good news is that on Monday next week I start work as a Sales Executive for Triumph Motorcycles, for the business that took over the building I helped sell to them.

A dream job for me and I cannot wait to get started.

Anyone up to buy a loaded Triumph Rocket 3?

Congrats!

I've always found this Triumph ad quite humorous...

That vid will of course be part of Ads' initial training for his new role. From selling sofas to Rocket IIIs, not too big a change?

Best wishes for the new job, BTW.
Thanks Raymond; at the end of the day its just a different product to sell. The process is pretty much the same; I just need to educate myself on all the model features and functions etc.

I was watering the garden the other morning and while walking backwards, dragging the hose up the driveway, I tripped over the tongue of my trailer. I went down fairly slowly and escaped with a very light bruise and a scrape. The worst thing was when I fell, the back of my pantleg got caught on the hitch so I was on my back with my leg suspended in the air. The hitch latch managed to tear into my jeans so I couldn’t free my leg. My first priority was to make sure nobody saw me. Then I tried pulling on the pant leg to finish tearing the material but no go. I then waddled on my a$$ until there was enough slack to lift my leg off. 😂. Now I know what a turtle feels like.

I then sprang (not really) up onto my feet and quickly shuffled around to corner to do a physical damage assessment. All looked ok so I rolled up the hose then moved the trailer to where it should have been.

Glad I didn’t hurt myself seriously and gave me time to think how old age creeps up on you in so many ways. Glad nobody saw me. The wife was away and if she saw me do this she would have had a heck of a time keeping a straight face.

That’s my excitement for the week. Lol

A lesson for you. To age gracefully, you must stay strong. Accidents are going to happen. The damage will be much more severe if you’re frail. I’m not at all suggesting you are, but best to avoid it rather than try to undo it.

I’m glad it only cost your jeans.

Hitting 67 next month - luckily in good health so hope I can keep it rolling , my BMW R1200GS may end up being too heavy for me in a few years though :-(. Luckily the XS’s aren’t to bad !
Yup swapped a GS for the Africa Twin but if I'm not hitting the long road an XS gets the nod. Smaller is simply more fun!

Have a trip that I haven’t done yet and hope to do next year, ride from Florida to anchorage and ship the bike back - done almost everything else on a bike but never had the time for this one :)

Catching up with you lads. Vic, glad you're ok from that stumble. We have all been there.
Adamc- congrats on your new Triumph job!!! Exciting! I love my new 2025 Tiger 900 Rally Pro. You will have lots of fun selling them and you've got so much experience in riding to share. You will do well.
Just got back from a 2000 kms trip as I'm about to turn 60 - small picture post to come.

61 in a weeks time. Definitely not ready to stop riding yet. Did a short trip to Germany/ Netherlands/ Danmark in May last year. And we really would like a longer tour through Austria/ Switzerland/ France/ Italy some time in the futura. And my significant other is 59 today, so also getting on a bit, but has no problems being a pillion on the NC750X or Ducati ST2. No Goldwing for us anytime soon 😀

Ooooh! The Alps have to be the ultimate motorcycle trip! 😎
Went through the alps the year I turned 50. From 70N in Norway to Sainte Maxime in France, via Bologna, the Stelvio pass, through parts of Switzerland and Austria, to Munich. Then took the "Autozug" train overnight North to Hamburg, through Denmark and ferry to Norway. Then we zig-zagged up though Norway all the way home. 7000 km at a very leisurely pace. Stayed a week in Sainte Maxime, and a few days with family and friends en rute in Norway. Great memories from that trip!

Good to hear from you Van.
Thanks for the kind words about my new job. The selling is exciting, I love talking to people. The order processing on the PC is a mine field of illogical structure. The modern bike tech is mind bending, just like a modern upmarket car; who uses all that stuff? The tiger 900’s are brilliant, and all you really need for the road. I like the Tiger 900GT PRO.
