Ageing out or The Crossroads

Adamc, I am likely going to quote you for the rest of my days when it comes to anything computer - "The order processing on the PC is a mine field of illogical structure"!
Hahahaha! THAT is classic!
Seriously happy for you in that job. I may do that myself one day, if someone would have me. A few more years in the welding supply industry to go...

TO OLD TO WORK, TO YOUNG TO DIE.

Some of you know I closed my own business in January 2024 after 7 years of struggle through Brexit then COVID.
I then helped out a friend working as a self employed retail consultant, running a store whilst negotiating the sale of the building to the Triumph Motorcycle business next door; my last of work day was 15/03/2025. Many job applications and letters to trade friends resulted in no further work due to the trade I know tanking.

Good news is that on Monday next week I start work as a Sales Executive for Triumph Motorcycles, for the business that took over the building I helped sell to them.

A dream job for me and I cannot wait to get started.

Anyone up to buy a loaded Triumph Rocket 3?

Made my first new Triumph bike sale on just day two of my employment!

We worry about guys making left turns at lights, we wonder if we are seen.

We never think that something as innocent as ducks crossing a road might lead to our demise.

I was stopped in traffic when the truck slammed into the car next to me, which then whipped around and clipped Bonnie. Luckily I was able to jump off before she laid down.

After getting home and looking at the pictures I took of the skidmarks, I realized that the truck was actually coming up behind me but then swerved and hit the white car instead of me.

Normally I'd crack some joke about how Thor has saved me, but I am so fucking pissed that my bike is trashed that I am in no mood for humor.

First, thank God you are unharmed!

Lesson: when stopping or stopped, always keep the bike in gear, your hands on the grips, and an eye on what's going on behind you. Always leave an avenue of escape. Always have a plan to use that avenue.

All the things they taught me in class.... all the things I got too lazy to do.

But I refuse to accept responsibility or blame for one guy hitting another guy and then getting hit by the 2nd guy.

Oh, you are not responsible any more than someone who lets their guard down is responsible for getting mugged! And we all need a reminder or three at times!

Due to circumstances outside my control (illness and death of my mom, illness and death of my father-in-law, etc., etc.) I haven't ridden in a couple of years. I am finally getting some seat-time in and thus am a bit rusty. Things are coming back quickly, but I must remain vigilante and continuously remind myself of the things I need to be doing when riding. Most of them I also practice while behind the wheel of a car, so they are still familiar, but it takes practice. Trust me, your lesson is very much my own lesson!

Probably the only positive about this whole thing is the truck guy got a couple citations from the local PD, and is clearly at fault for hitting the white car, and everyone all had the same insurance company, so at least the paperwork will be not so terrible.

I'm just annoyed that I spent hours designing and machining engine badges, paid to have them anodized, then spent more time engraving them, and I'm pretty sure they got damaged and will have to make new ones.

What a pisser. So sorry for the incident, but pleased you are OK.

Went for a first therapy session yesterday afternoon for my Sciatica and therapist did and initial survey/evaluation and determined the cause to be piriformis syndrome. He directed me through a series of stretching exercises and suggested repeating at home a couple times a day as possible and I have to say that I feel much improved from the past few weeks and encouraged to achieve some level of relief.

Then later this popped up on my phone. It will pop up towards the end so you'll have to scroll it back to beginning, but it's all about changes in mounts, riding style and awareness for older riders. Things to help us stay in the game.
