As some of you know, I have 34 mm Mikuni TM/ RS linked flatslide carbs on my XS.
First, I just used a pair of fairly large oval and tapered K&N filters directly on the carbs. These worked fine, but the side covers could not be used with them. Not ideal at all.
Then I made some "velocity stacks" which I did not like in the end.
Next, I purchased a pair of 70 mm long Mikuni velocity stacks from Topham, with a bellmouth OD of 76 mm.
Then I slid 48 mm long pieces of 3" plastic drain pipe over them, and poured boat building epoxy between the stacks and the plastic tubing, to create somehing to clamp the filters to.
Then I used a sanding roll with the Dremel, to remove the stopper edge in the neck of the filters.
This allows the filter to slide further over the velocity stack, in fact so far that the bellmouth sits just inside the filter, and not some distance down in the filter neck. This should, at least in theory, give the best flowing setup possible. And allow me to use side covers, however slightly modified ones.
See attached pics of filters and modified velocity stacks.

FYI, the can in the background is my favorite beer, "Haakon", a dark lager from our local brewery, L.Mack's.
