"
No pilots may operate an aircraft in the areas covered by this NOTAM,” the FAA said, using the abbreviation for Notice to Airmen. It listed the reason as “temporary flight restrictions for Special Security Reasons.”
The restriction for the airspace over El Paso and the neighboring community of Santa Teresa, New Mexico came in at 6:30 a.m. UTC, or coordinated universal time (11:30 p.m. ET). It will end at the same time on Feb. 21."
There was no fore-warning or explanation.

Never seen this before...

Yeah, this all adds up... Airspace closes for 10 days. :cautious:

Why? Because of a "cartel" drone incursion. But wait... that incursion was "swiftly" addressed, so we cancelled the other 9 days and 22 hrs.

It's like The Gang That Couldn't shoot Straight.

Guess it's time for me to put my bridge in N Y back up on the market.

"The Federal Aviation Administration reopened the airspace around El Paso International Airport in Texas on Wednesday morning, just hours after it announced a 10-day closure that would have grounded all flights to and from the airport.
The FAA said in a social media post that it has lifted the temporary closure of the airspace over El Paso, saying there was no threat to commercial aviation and that all flights will resume.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said in a post on X that the FAA and the Defense Department “acted swiftly to address a cartel drone incursion. The threat has been neutralized and there is no danger to commercial travel in the region.” He said normal flights are resuming."

Who mentioned Biden? :poke:

Mexican cartels (who are getting pretty pissed that some one is finally F-ing with their cash flow from FENTANYL among other drugs) sending drones over a US city, couple pounds of fentanyl aerosol-ed over a city could kill hundreds? and that's not worth a damned serious response? Once it's clear that particular threat has been eliminated NOTAM canceled. Yeah I'm OK with that.

The DoD wanted to do some experimenting with lasers to kill drones. The FAA objected to them using commercial airspace to do it. An objection I wholeheartedly support btw. They even had a meeting scheduled to discuss the logistics of it all. So... either the DoD or the FAA jumped the gun... prompting the 10 day NOTAM. I'll stick by my "gang who couldn't shoot straight" comment. Most likely had nothing to do with an imminent drone threat.

Fwiw, I'm all for taking down drones that cross the S. border. Maybe if they actually get their shit together, they can come up with a way that doesn't shut down a busy corridor for "experiments."

Who mentioned Biden? :poke:
I could be stupid enough to believe your "JOE" reference was just a random name... maybe...

Lol, looks like the world is a safe place except for party balloons...🤣🤣

Seems rather far fetched, but then a while back there was a ruckes about the Chinese sending spy balloons over the US, (was it just a weather balloon or drone), and inviting a reporter to listen in on a secret air strike on the signal app. Watched a lot of Laural and Hardy movies as a child.....

Worlds a safer place, especially down here👀
