I recently purchased an 74 XS (TX) 650 and found myself pulling it apart to get it in top shape. I literally learned as I went, searching this forum for knowledge and pointers. Rewired the whole bike while installing signals, rebuilt the carbs, replaced the pipes and plenty other parts, cleaned down the whole frame, fabricated parts... and many more tweaks. Still waiting on the vinegar to do its work on the gas tank!

I have yet to start her up (need a name still...) because the antigravity battery needs a charge and she is not tuned at all yet, a bit nervous to kick her over! Any pointers on how to get this machine running smooth, adjustments for throttle cable (idle) and air fuel screw are welcome! I am sure I will be frequenting here as I come along different issues or get trigger happy on parts... Happy riding.

One concern would be the 38 yr old regulator running the LifePo Antigravity battery. Once running, do check charge voltage across the battery terminals @2500-3000rpm (not to exceed 14.5VDC) and idle (less than 14VDC).

Fantastic, thanks for the advice! I was considering going battery-less and getting a PMA kit with Power Box eventually anyway. Or simply replacing the regulator.

Keeping the OEM alternator with an upgraded reg/rec is gonna be your best bet.

1 diode would limit charge voltage by .7v each.
I run 1/2 of a FWB so using 2 to limit max. to 14.5v at the bat.

Kaw. triples use a perm. mag. generator and shunt regulator.
