If there is any interest on this informative Yamaha site in seeing another beat up, decrepit, white framed, ugly arse two up seat, 76 Honda 750K brought back to life I will post occasional pictures as the process moves along. It is pretty compete, decent miles, and has a title. The 76 year model is my least favorite, with giant turn signals and no on/off light switch like the previous years. Fortunately there is also a non titled even uglier 74 model chopper style parts bike in the shed that can help rectify those issues. Good old metal fusion in blind cylinder #2 ended up with a wrung off easy out now firmly embedded within the twisted off spark plug base converting it quickly to parts bike status. Thankfully I did not pay much for that one and there are some good parts for this current and future projects. I even drove a couple hundred miles today to pick up the first parts, a pristine set of HR341 stock pipes, should be a great improvement over the rusted headers. With what I paid for the project (s) and pipes I have apparently decided I no longer need money......

Good tear down day, no bad surprises. (I had one not long ago where when I pulled the tank, found a cut frame. Very common in the 750K world, easy way to replace a valve cover gasket without pulling the motor.) Oil was dirty and had a gas smell indictive of sitting for a long period with a petcock open or leaking, no shinny bits in the bottom of the drain pan though, always a good thing. New 5 OHM coil in place and the carbs look good, just dirty. Waiting on a new supply of wintergreen oil to begin soaking the rubber parts, The ugly headers have joined the ever growing collection in the shed, my Wife swears you will be seeing me soon on the hoarder program on TV.......

When I did my K0 build I was quite stunned at what the price of an original Hm300 exhaust system was. I got lucky In that mine are near perfect, but if I had to buy pipes, it would have been double what I paid for the whole bike.

If the price was right, worth the trip.

You can sometimes still find a deal on the old innerweb. I was browsing on E bay and found what looked to be a brand new CB750k seat priced right at 169 bucks to include shipping. It was on the site of a vendor who specializes in used vintage Honda parts I have bought from many times in the past. He stated he had picked the seat up in a batch of parts he had recently purchased was fairly sure it was a K seat. He has an excellent return policy so I figured it was worth the gamble. It arrived today and I bolted on the hinges and latch from the ugly two up "Big Foot" seat and bingo, fit perfectly with no adjustment what so ever. Just proves the old blind squirrel nut thing is true, but I bet he has the ugliest Wife in the forest.....

We are an XS650 site. That alone suggests we have a passing interest in older Motorcycles. We may not have expertise in your Honda but we may voice opinions. There is a lot of love here and very little hate. Can you put a Yamaha emblem on the bike ?

Kevin there have been a number of XS650's come and go through my garage door so like you I have a passion for nearly anything on two wheels, although I will be 75 years old in 6 days, I may be looking at three on the ground before long. If you start mixing up brand emblems hard to tell the outcome, might end up with a Moto Guzzi or Royal Enfield.

Heat here in Virginia the heat has been brutal, I try getting a lot done in the early am or late evening, but even then you are drenched in sweat after a few hours. I am a summer time guy, but I am really looking forward to the fall after this heat spell. I have finished up the carbs, got the swing arm and chain guard knocked out paint wise, and brought the rusty rear wheel and shocks somewhat back to a presentable condition......

Looking at the paint on the tank with the heavy fading and oxidation I am going to have to respray to bring it back. I searched and found the below British based company that carried candy antares red at a really good price even with shipping across the pond. The paint arrived within five days and I shot a test piece this morning was more than pleased with the match, of course aerosol cans are my weapons of choice. It is a 3 stage paint and I have never done a tank with black insert decals so we will see. I purchased the tank decals from 4 into 1 Honda parts and they were just a few bucks cheaper than the paint. There are couple of dents that need working so it will be awhile, but wish me luck guys, a new adventure.....

Some fresh paint, not the best rattle can job I have ever done. There were some issues with the paint and decal applications, but at least it shines. I have also made the over size turn signals disappear and they have beer replaced with the smaller earlier model style. To simplify the process I also converted to an early style wiring harness. Two steps forward, one back, but will get there eventually......
