2 Friends bought 1982 GS1100E when they were new. One of them was a Yamaha mechanic that worked at the Yamaha shop I worked for. Owner was pissed, said he shouldve bought a XS1100. He kept it for 16 years or so. Same as this pic.
Got in a race with an E type Jag on a GS1100 once. Was back in the days of the mandated 85mph speedo. Speedo was well buried when the Jag finally gave up.
Found out later from Cycle Magazine I was somewheres north of 135mph.
