Heading to opening day of the Hot Rod Power Tour later today at the dragstrip here in Joliet. I'll post pics later.

Edit: a few gems from this morning. We left after a while since it was raining and they had to postpone drag racing

I got a ton more but that's just a few of the best ones I saw. More were rolling thru the gate and from miles up the road as we were leaving, but there wasn't a whole lot to do cause of the rain.

Point of automotive trivia- the Divco milk truck originally likely had an OHV inline 252 ci 6 sourced from Nash, same engine as in our '54 Ambassador.

What can I say
This is something that did not exist
Back in the day one had to get a MOT approval .And if no pass No longer allowed to use the car
driving ban.
And could be stopped a lot if looked bad.
So even if the cars was bad .Owner tried to make it look reasonable
Now there is this " Pilsner Bilar " Beer cars where they make them look --- well see for yourself
Younger crowd Loud music Some gets upset .. These kids dont care so much about that
Doing their things one have Winter skis on the roof
Police there
What can I say like a Fellini movie

I think / believe there is a new loophole these vehicles so old are mostly owned by enthusiast taking care of them
Restoring -- 95 % or more of owners I would guess.
Many working with cars professionally as in Panel beating or Mechanics
..And the " Ruling Classes " then got fed up calling them to MOT inspection .
Owners protested against paying for the Inspection. ca $ 50 to $ 80 US
There never was any fault . And old vehicles have relaxed rules
I read somewhere that an early 60 ies Chevrolet don't even need a Front windscreen.

Since it newer was a problem No one can or could. use a car in winter without one so it is not mandatory.
So with relaxed inspections and far between them there can be more room

Back in the day also with bad cars .but the owners was damn sure the driver .Never was drunk
And damn sure brakes and other mandatory things was there working Should the cops see it..

I know of one going to the MOT Inspection with cardboard mudflaps .. Attached at rear..
The rule was mudflap but it did not say what material A pass at the inspection.
Even if at rain the mudflap would fly away.

If there is an approval at the MOT ( With relaxed rules ) The Dumb Lazy cop cannot usually falsify that
He don't know much about Cars ( Either ) saying " This is not the status the vehicle was approved for "
And at a place like that on the video there are others things they focus on
Overuse Alcohol fex. Loud music keeping people awake
I don't know if they give fines .But they used to do .Just to stop them driving at certain blocks.

A loophole that can be closed .But meaning work -- and bureaucrats don't want to work . The other 95 % are
a big group and are voters. raising their voice.
Perhaps as with firearms in the USA
There are some problems but what I hear not possible to mess with.
But the guess is that loophole will be closed But it is no certain ,
