I've looked through lots of old threads, even seen Jim mention threatening to do it to bring out a touch more noise....but has anyone out there drilled any extra holes in the baffling of the slip on Commando mufflers (NOT the Emgo brand).

I like the tone of mine as they are on my 75 but if I could get closer to my XS-1's sound I'd do it if anyone has been able to closely duplicate it?

It might depend on the brand of Commando muffler?

The ones I have are made by Armours, you could use them as a telescope if you put a lens at each end. There's nothing in there to drill out. They're made with a perforated tube down the middle and the annulus between inner and outer is packed with wire wool. They're surprisingly heavy.

But they sound excellent.

There are actual Norton Commando mufflers, like IBALT describes, and then the "Commando" mufflers sold by Heiden, MikesXS etc. I have tried both on my XS.
The "big bore" Norton Commando mufflers I got, have a louvred core (not perforated), and no packing at all. They sound tinny and raspy on my XS.
The "Commando" mufflers were bought from Heiden, and have an M10 bolt in the center of the baffle. This bolt can be removed for a bit more noise. It may be possible to drill that hole out more, but I haven't tried. I find that these mufflers sound fine, even with that M10 bolt installed.
