BARBER !

I was there Friday in a whirlwind visit with a couple of friends. I didn't spot anyone. Maybe next year I'll get another swap meet space and have more time.
I noticed attendance was down as well. Weather's great though.

I was there Friday and ran across Marty, Gary, JP and saw Desmoman900 competing in a sound contest for the VJMC (he didn't win). gggGary was contemplating a wicked-looking Kawasaki widow maker for sale that surely would have been the death of him o_O. I also saw Wayne Carini walking through the swap meet.
Who owns the XS650 in Marty's first pic?

Lotsa cool XSs at The Barber Vintage Festival

After we had grabbed two sites side by side and made a common area between them. A ginormous motor home with toad began maneuvering into the next site. The generator exhaust right next to my van. We were preparing to wage war over diesel exhaust; but it was two Canadian couples, the motorhome had a large solar array, and they came over and asked if it was OK each time they needed to run it for a short time to bring up the battery bank!
I'm moving to Canada but they'd prolly end up calling me the ugly American.

Hmm, if you only have kick start...

Barber..... the swap was mostly metric, not much for the Brit boys, or the Euro fellows and very few Harley bits. There was a stunning 77' D model... in Maxi Maroon.... ask'n $5500.oo with upgrades you couldn't buy one and get it in that condition for the price. I only saw one Xs on the museum floor.... which was the case from my other visits over the years. I thought there would be at least a first-year model and a Special on site by now. They had several Cb 450's on display. The VJMC hosted a well attended event and on hand was a stunning 1970 Xs1. My buddy and I headed out saturday morning for Deals Gap and the " Tail of the Dragon ". 318 curves in 11 miles. Upon arrival it was utter insanity ! " Turners " (mostly Japanese cars) almost bumper to bumper.... mixed in with the Porsche 928 club, Vett's, Mcclearn's... and motorcycles. I decided to do my ride in the morning. I now hold the record for VW theme scooters in high-speed corners, qtr mile speed and lean angle. I did not ride the compete course since I didn't need a Hayabusa enema. We stopped on the way home in central Tenn. to check out a pair of 1930's Moto Guzzi's .... video on those later. 😎

Doing "The Dragon" on weekends is a pain in the butt. Far too many folks who think they are just one YouTube video away from a professional racing career.

Hope the additional video pop'd up. Both my buddy and I were stationed on East Africa... Army... early 70's. This fellow was also posted there and worked on getting these back. My buddies 34' Guzzi ran great and we were stroked it started on the first kick every time ! I shipped one back and a 450 Ducati... the Army " lost " them.... I was able to find another 450 in the mid 80's.... still downstairs.
I agreed about the insanity found at the Tail of the Dragon on the weekends.... Hope Mid Ohio improves since it's on the calendar for 2023. 😎

Ok kiddies..... anyone heading to Barber ? Myself and an old army buddy are get'n our act together. Prepping the trailer.... camp'n gear. Got our tickets and camp'n permits. I've done Barber about 4-5 times, and this is the 2nd time I've done it with the army buddy. He hopes to be on his 34' Moto Guzzi.... I'm not sure on what I'll trailer. I heard they added to the building and the swap meet has gone gonzo. 😎
Yes, I’ll be at the VJMC Show Friday and Saturday
