WOW - It's been a LONG time since I've been on the XS Forum......
My Apologies, as my Poor XS is sitting and waiting (for several years) for new carbs that I really couldn't afford.
BUT.....
My birthday just passed (61 now!) and I was given a GREAT Gift - $1000 with the promise that I'd spend AT LEAST HALF on something FUN.
I knew EXACTLY what I wanted to spend it on.... Another Semester for Mike's kids in College...
Mike's XS
I've rebuilt her from the ground up, and only needed ONE thing.... a new set of carbs for her.
Unfortunately, they weren't in the picture since my budget is pretty tight, lately. But this gift gives me an out! $557 later - I have NEW CARBS ON THE WAY!!!!! As well as a couple bottles of Blinker Fluid for Christmas gifts!
She's had an engine rebuild - including porting, polishing, new cam chain & guide, New wheel bearings front & rear, Needle bearings on the Swingarm, Minton Mods to the front forks, new rear shocks, Banshee PMA Alternator, Electronic Ignition (An ORIGINAL BOYER-BRANSDEN setup!), Mike's Oil Filter/cooler, a whole new (modified and simplified) wiring harness, LED bulbs all around, new spokes (plus trued and balanced) wheels.
This year she'll FINALLY be getting new carbs! I've ordered a set of XS performance 32mm carbs as the FINAL parts to get her back on the road again! I've MISSED HER SO MUCH!
When I realized I HAD TO pull her off the road for LOTS of work in 2012, I picked up an 83 XJ1100 to tide me over, but it needed Carb work, too... DAMN. I got through the 2012 season, but pulled the carbs off it for work that winter, and in early 2013 fell in LOVE with the new Yamaha BOLT. I bought a brand new '14 Bolt in May '13, and since then, I've been procrastinating about the other two.
Hopefully next year will be different.... With carbs for the XS on the way, I can get it finished, and hopefully motivate myself to get the 1100 running and on the road, too.
My plan is to sell the 1100, and keep the XS and the Bolt - they aren't as FAST as the 1100, but overall they're more FUN. I have the Bolt set up to tow a trailer for camping or long trips, but the XS is just plain FUN.
Is anybody else getting motorcycle gifts and fun stuff for themselves or friends and relatives?
