Broken valve

It seems as though the Rd had an 18" front wheel. Not sure if a 51 year old speedo would notice much difference.
My modern car speedo doesn't seem particularly accurate when compared with the GPS speed.

Thanks for that.
I'll check the size of RD350 front wheel.
I believe that the gauge bracket is very similar. It's just that the gauges are slightly closer together
Sorry if confusing.
Usually its 37/1 at the head.
Odometer only.
Speed indication should match if not sticking or mis-adjusted on aluminum cup/magnet proximity.
Spring tension for needle will effect low MPH reading also.

That's my main concern. We don't have any annual inspection on older vehicles over here.
It seems as though every road here in the UK has speed cameras. As long as I can sort of calibrate it by following a friend on their bike I should be fine, for the summer.
I'll probably have the same speedometer in ten years time. With the original sat in a box waiting to be repaired.

Yeah, the wheel circumference is different but the gearing ratio (worm gear) in the axle mounted sending unit maybe different as well. I wouldn't use it. You should be able to find a good used one.
Mechanical speedos typically use a non-contact magnetic mechanism to cause the spring loaded needle to turn, the spring returns it to 0 when you come to a stop. The ODO, trip and total mileage, is directly gear driven so will still be accurate and functional. Issues with the speedo needle could be drag or binding of the needle pivot shaft, or perhaps something that increased the distance between the rotating magnets and the pickup that would decrease the magnetic field that turns the needle.

Surely one of the guys here could help you out, or perhaps you can find someone there to service yours. I know here that there a guys that do repair and recal on old speedos. I just sent a 30 year old HD speedo to a guy this week to have a couple things fixed on a restoration project I'm working on. Old Smith's, Veglia and others are pretty common for people to repair.

Thanks for. Really useful information.
I was just about to clear the purchase with her indoors. £72 delivered seemed to be reasonable. But only if it works.
Used ones are proving very difficult to find in the UK.
Hang on for a sec. Got some info for you...

Just happen to have both....
This is an RD350 speedo driven with a drill. Shows about 30mph.

And this is an XS650 speedo driven with the same drill a few seconds apart from each other. Shows a tad over 30mph. I think we can safely say the drive ratio is the same for both.

Thought I'd post an update. And a thank you to everyone who has helped, so far.
Just been for a run, around 10 miles in the local area. Bike runs really nice. Ticks over nicely and pulls well up some nice steep hills.

Spark plugs a bit sooty but that's probably due to starting a fair bit on the choke. As I set up the carbs. A slight hesitation just off tickover. I'm hoping I can sort that by tinkering with the carbs.

The RD350 speedo works good. It's slightly smaller than an XS650 speedo so I wrapped it with self amalgamating tape.
