CAD For Dummies?

A Program called Team Viewer can be an option it used to be free at least
It is a free program that 2 computer have on them making it possible for no 2 to run no 1 s computer

say fex Jim No 1 Downloads and install the CAD and Team Viewer ---other one no 2 with team viewer can do the drawing on Jims Computer
or assist should there be problems .Being a supervisor or teacher
there are passwords

They use it for remote computer assistance it has safety concerns having someone else running your computer but is used

At work I use CREO parametric, but at home i use Fusion 360. Its free for hobby use. Most CAD software is very similar. The first projects will be hard haha. You just have to get used to it. It really helps to learn if you have some things you really want to draw up.

Bonus for Fusion in my eyes is the amount of support by forums and youtube. Ive you got a problem, just google it and 99% there will be a video about it.

Depending on how complicated the part is they have a thing so you can design it on their site. I've had a few trigger wheels cut by them. Very quick and reasonably priced. as for free cad, see what the 3d printer people use. Alot of them are hobby level and won't be paying $10k+ for cad.

AutoCAD more or less set the industry standard.
It's been around for over 40 years.
Probably too expensive if you use it only a little however you can get a free trial version (for 14 days I think). Maybe you can finish your task in 14 days?

My ME's use Creo at work, but I use Fusion 360 for my home projects. I never asked them if there was a scaled down version of Creo but I think the software is much larger than Fusion. Most of the stuff I do is pretty rectangular and such. My next project is to make a clamp on stylus holder for the bike. sometimes I want to use phone and my darn gloves just don't work and I want to be able to pull out a stylus when I stop.
XS650 float jigs are available but I made on for the XJ650 (before I sold it) and a phone holder that screws onto a boat console

Fusion is very powerful and it combines a lot of other features too like CAM programming, simulations and more. Yes its free for home users but there also lies the problem is my eyes. Nothing is free its not Charity. Autodesk is fan of subscription based products. Yes you don't have to purchase a expensive licence at once, but you will also never own this product. If they raise the price you are locked in.

Apart from this rant, the home use license is very handy for hobbyist like us, and free.

Sendcutsend quoted $50 to translate a sketch into cad to make parts. And you cannot keep the cad drawings. Spent a few hours this weekend learning FreeCAD to make a drawing of the exhaust brakets I want them to make. Sent the cad in. Lets see how it goes.

Hi, zrx1100: I had a go with freecad as I have the linux operating system. I found it difficult too use!? I wonder if I did not have the power on my laptop to run it. or possibly I had some software missing. I was creating frame designs for the xs650 engine which of cause are tubes in three dimensions. I switched to photoshop for visual ideas, and then to now, GIMP.
Did you get your head around it?
