So current state of Mallory the forgotten motor Her top is stuck halfway off with her jugs exposed and I can't seem to get any further. It's like I'm 13 all over again. At least her dad's not coming down the hall. Don't know if I should tap the top of the pistons down or hit the jugs or how hard. it's soaking for now but I had to take a breather. Some of you guys make this look easy.
Anyway I picked up a parts lot I found on CL for a buck o' five and it was pretty much a whole bike with boxes of some interesting goodies. I thought I might do a little show and tell and maybe find out what some of iy is or off what it came from
I have no plans for it, it was just a bunch of stuff for cheap, The origin of the forks is what I'm wondering. The guy had planned to hard tail it but lost interest I guess. I believe it's a 78/9 special but I haven't gone deep into it. It's a 2FO code and the numbers match so that's cool. Oh, forgot a pic Anyways, see anything cool?
I'll get back to Mallory sooner or later but any tips on how to proceed are greatly appreciated. Aloha

Ok bear with me because I think I figured out what the forks and wheels from the parts bike originally came off. After many search attempts regarding the forks I still wasn't sure what I had, They appeared to measure 36mm but that was outside diameter and my calipers marks are hard to see clearly. I noticed that the rear sprocket was massive compared to my other Xs and had 43 teeth so I searched 43 tooth sprocket and discovered the TX500 has a 43 tooth rear sprocket. I got these images off partzilla and compared,??? What do you think, am I close. I know Yamaha probably made a dozen similar looking setups that look just like this one but curiosity is killing me. Well it's keeping me distracted from the stuck cylinder jugs anyway. Other than the cool looking wheels, why do you think someone would do this and what effect would that rear sprocket have.Seems like it would just want to do wheelies.

That rear wheel does appear to be a Cush wheel off a TX500. If so it’s an easy conversion to fit a 650 and it’s much smoother. I put one on my Bobber and I can tell the difference.

Well that's cool, I'm usually wrong. According to the tech chart, if I interpreted that right, the frame is a 79 xssf the code is 2FO169xxxx I had a swingarm from a 77 so I rigged it all together and found the wheel is narrower than the 77 was. Do you have any knowledge of what the spacers would look like. I made a temporary out of a PVC pie just do I can roll the thing around. It's not part of any project that I'm working on so I'll deal with it later. Or maybe when I retire. Also, the pistons are still stuck in the last mms of the cylinder sleeves. Should I try heating the sleeves? Smack it harder? I saw one guy pulled the wrist pins then pounded the pistons out, afraid I'll lose something in the case.
