Hello,

Having trouble finding a good replacement cam chain guide and thinking about running the one I have. motor had around 60k miles when I tore it down. Curious if anyone has used the one mikes XS sells or if they just run the original.

Welcome aboard!!

That's the chain tensioner, not the chain guide. Just going by the two pics, I'd say it looks serviceable. Fwiw, those tensioners are pretty robust. I can't recall a single incident where one wore out or failed.

Having said that, I replaced the one in my bike with one from Mikes XS and it seems to be holding up fine. The only reason I replaced it was because I didn't know better at the time... about 8 yrs ago. I've since done the top end on about a half dozen more engines and left the original in place on all of 'em.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the clarification! I had gotten a replacement one from mikes but it had a lot of play in it and one side was rubbing against the cylinder wall so looks like i’m running the original. Thank you for the help
