Camchain noise

Hi guys, does anyone have any information about cam chain tensioner problems on a 1976 xs650? I have a strange rattle I can’t trace

Look in the Tech section. Remove the tensioner cap (bolt) and tensioner rod should move approximately 1mm.

You probably have the notorious type D tensioner assembly, the only one that didn't have a lock nut. You should consider upgrading it to a type E. Info is here, posts 22 and 23 .....

You can't get them new any more so I usually watch eBay for one. All you really need is the lock nut and the plunger but you don't see them listed separately very often. But if you're patient, you can usually get a whole assembly for around $20. Not too bad for (in my opinion) a much needed upgrade.

By the way, do you know if the copper washer for the type D tensioner is available?

Not from Yamaha, you'll have to go "generic", lol. I found some on eBay.
