Today my jets showed up and I reinstalled my BS 38 carbs* on my 75 which brought a few questions to mind. There does not seem to be room to install both carbs at the same time if connected to one another. There are three tubes that go between the carbs and while doable, connecting them separately it is fiddly and there is no way to clamp the ends of those three tubes** when installing the carbs separately so they are friction fit only. Am I missing something here or is that how they are supposed to be set up with no hose clamps on the balance tubes?

*I believe them to be the originals

** I used fuel line for all three.

The bike starts right up and revs cleanly in static mode I'll be doing a road test soon to evaluate the jetting and the need for any changes.

On my '77 there is a little aluminum angle bar to connect the carbs so as not to mess with the shaft sincro linkage. It always took me a bit of practice but eventually I could remove the pair as a unit.

Picture of the problem please?
I will start by saying that the only phone I have is connected to the wall by a wire so no camera on that puppy. I do have a digital camera that in a pinch I can use but unless the circumstances are dire it sits somewhere gathering dust. It is amazing that I own a laptop so there some progress there for me.

In this case the problem (more of an annoyance) is not having the room to install both carbs connected to one another by there connecting tubes. Individually from their respective side installing them is not that bad, the two lower tubes can then be connected but it leaves no room to put clamps on them.

Next time I have the carbs off I will muster up all my patience to install them as a pair with the tubes connected and clamped as the OCD part of me hates to leave those clamps off.

You may be connecting ports on the carbs to each other that should not be connecting the carbs together. Vents, overflows that should be open tubes. It's not difficult on my 77 650D to remove or reinstall a set of BS38 carbs. Fiddly, but definitely not difficult.

Without a picture, nobody can tell you if what you're doing is correct or not.

Yeah some push together lines 'tween the pair on 75s and some that are open as vents. If you connect them instead of leaving them open fun will ensue.
Fuel lines "should be" clamped....

It’s a much easier job to remove 4 carburetors from my XS1100 than the 2 from my XS650. The same goes for installation. “Much easier” isn’t a strong enough remark.

If you remove the cam chain adjuster cap and one of the intake boots she’ll go right in. Takes a little practice to find the way that suits you best.
Yes, that’s how I do mine although all of them are solid linked unlike the ‘75.

Those pictures are helpful. Initially I had bridged the the float bowl vents because that was the way I found them but a closer look at the shop manual showed the individual vent tubes. More and more I am learning on this bike that whatever the last owner did....DONT DO THAT! :laugh2:
