Over the years running daily bikes and doing European tours, I have used many different chain lubes. Most just flung sh!t around the back wheel and the back of my trousers; what remains on the chain collected grit and dirt to wear out the chain and sprockets prematurely. Apparently Scotoilers have a good reputation for high mileage users.
Now I use ‘O’ or ‘X’ ring good quality chains which are sealed with internal lubricant so no real need to add lubes. I do lightly grease the sprockets before each ride however. My bikes get very low usage now so it works for me.
