If one were to immerse a chrome piece in evaporust to remove rust from the inside of the part, will the Evaporust (or similar product) stain or damage tge chrome?

@jetmechmarty wrote a thread about this. Maybe search for that?
Pretty sure he determined it was safe on chrome.

I've been immersing all kinds of chrome parts from a 1970 Honda CB350 that Im restoring and it works amazingly well...agitate with soft brush then rinse in fresh water, itll be good to go.

Here is the link to my thread. Phosphoric acid for rust on chrome parts

These formerly rusty fenders are still doing fine. As I recall, I added two cups of the acid solution to a five-gallon bucket of water.
thanks , forgot completly that write up you did ...must be getting old and senile :) glad of the reminder as been working on a 98 sporty that had sat in a shed in the rainforrest unused for over 8 yrs so the chrome isnt the best

I went all in this afternoon. Headlight bucket is in the Evaporust. Will report back in 24 hours!

I also dunked an XS bucket in the same container. Not nearly as rusted as the Suzuki but here’s what it (XS) looks like after 14 hours of immersion. No elbow grease required! Quite impressed with this stuff. The SuzukI bucket needed more time but should be out tonight.

It is good stuff. Temperature makes a big difference in how fast it works. Also make sure the parts are clean and grease free.

Yes OHRider suggested putting an aquarium heater in the bucket to speed things up. That’s another thing to put on my shopping list.

So you just used straight Evaporust? I have a fuel tank with what appears to be minor rust. Do you think Evaporust is all I need?

Yes that’s all I used. The tank on the bike has a very minor spots of light surface rust. I’m going to give it the Evaporust treatment this winter.

With the exception of reassembly, the “rust bucket“ is done. Worked out well. Pics: before; after; POR15; white topcoat. Vinegar is economical but slow. Wonder what would happen if I put Evaporust in my ultrasonic cleaner?

**** Another quite interesting fact. It looks to me like the water Buffalo headlight bucket would fit on the XS. That would be a bonus because the Suzuki bucket is 10mm deeper and has some nice tabs that hold the wiring in place.
