Cleaning front brake caliper on XS2

I got both of the seized pistons out of my front brake caliper, thanks to help and advice from folks on this forum. There were some small rust pits on the pistons, so I ordered new ones. While I'm waiting on them I'd like to go ahead and clean up the inside surfaces where the pistons were. I will use brake cleaner, but I assume that I should also use something mildly abrasive on the surfaces to cut through the surface rust. What should I use? What is the best way to clean these up?

For things like that I sometimes use a plastic (not metal) based pan scouring pad and some lubricant. I can usually borrow one from the kitchen.
