I have an 81 XS650. I have been having charging issues, so I was running with the side cover off. The charging issue is fixed, and now I can't get the cover back on as the clutch pushrod is solid. Any sergetions?

Back the adjuster screw right out and try again?

Same thing happened to me after I took the cover off to shine it up

I did that, even removing it. With it removed, when I push the cover on, there is a round 1/8" (3mm) gap that doesn't seem normal to me.
