I had the same troubles but in reverse. I got mine out but couldn't get them back in with proper torque. You're going to have to get some kind of screw extractor. Drill a hole in the centers and there is a special bit thats screws in and backs the screw out. Or use an easy out.

Just a lil' update. Close examination of the spring seat corner of the original clutch spring screws may reveal a 'rounded' corner, that may prevent the clutch spring from fully seating against the flange of the screwhead. This creates a false bottom, and also makes the spring grab the screw, possibly making it difficult to separate the spring from the screw.

My solution was to simply turn-down this inside corner on the lathe. It may be possible to do this using a drill or drillpress. Clamp the screw shank in the drill chuck, leaving room to get the edge of a flat file in there.

I have one of these HF impact drivers. Only way I got the flat head Philips screws out of the upper head.
WOW, glad I read all of this above before unscrewing those clutch pack bolts.

Harbor Freight Has upgraded there hand impact wrench since I looked last.
It has a red plastic handle that flares out on the end you hit so your less apt to hit your fingers and comes with 6 bits. The usual four two sizes of Phillips and straight and two longer bits one the # 3 phillips and the 8 mm straight. All in a blowmoulded case.
Very nice looking.

About to reinstall clutch pack and use the (I believe Mikes xs) 39-6504 hex head screw set with included alloy seats....forgot I even had them...forgot everything I had read on this post way back last summer...Oh, me.
