I have for now an old desktop computer running Windows 10 and was hoping I might be able to print to my wife's new Brother Printer it's a MFC-J1010DW. As my old desktop does not have Wi-Fi I hoping I could get by with a USB Wi-Fi adapter. Would this be possible? If so what is the range in distance something like this would work? My desk is one floor below her's and maybe 25 feet away.

I have been using an old Epson printer direct wired on my desktop but it finally gave up and I really don't want to have to replace my old desktop or buy a new printer at this time. I probably would only be printing a couple pages a day at the most.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

That should work, Ken. I've done the same in the past.
Next question I would have is about the many USB WI-FI adapters I'm seeing.

They are priced any where from $8.00 to ten times that! Would one of the ones going for around $20.00 surve my purpose, if it maters this is a wood frame house. Computer is around 30 feet away from router and one floor below.

Like I said probably only printing a hand full of pages a day at the most and many days with none at all. I do have a few unused USB ports both front and back of the computer.

I would just hate to think I would need a second printer just to print a small number of things a month. I think one of the problems with the printer that stopped working might have be the lack of use had the ink dry up from just sitting.

How is your existing machine internet connected? Or is it? If it's hard wired to the router you should be able to get to the printer with everything as it is.
I'm thinking that you are right! Both computers have been hooked to the same router. Actually just tried and was able to print a couple pages from my downstairs desk to the new printer. Guess I do not need to get the
Wi-Fi thing I had thought I might need. I'll play with it a bit but think I might be good to go.

Thanks to all who put up with my lack of understanding on this subject!
