I was a reluctant early adopter to the computer age; born of work necessity rather than want. Mobiles and PC were the thing back then.
Had a few decent mobile phones for work: many Nokia units and my favourite was a tiny Nokia 8800, I still have like the one below.
Blackberry was a good tool for viewing email & documents etc.
And then iPhone 1 came out about 2007 and it all changed.
I didn't get on board until the iPhone 3G-S, Still nice in the hand and I still have.
Work allowed upgrades each release until I realised 'Its just a bloody mobile phone'
I now have a refurbished iPhone 11 Pro
This however started my run of Apple products in my home life. Work is a PC with Microsoft.
In 2013 I bought a 21.5 inch iMac which was a wonderful thing of design and efficiency back then.
It integrated easily with a number of iPads and Phones my wife and I used over many years.
The machine served us well; but over the past year or so the thing was getting slower and slower to the point of frustration!
Time to bite the bullet and upgrade. An early joint Christmas present was agreed with Mrs C and we pulled the trigger:
The workstation is now a very clean environment consisting of the following:
Apple Mac Mini M4 10-Core CPU 16GB Unified Memory 256GB SSD
BenQ MA32OU 32 Inch Monitor Display (Superb screen)
BenQ Idea-cam S1 Pro Webcam (Very clever bit of kit)
Apple wireless keyboard & mouse (from old Mac)
Brother MFC-J4610DW Printer (Old & needs upgrading)
iPhone 11 Pro
iPad Gen 9
We are delighted with the appearance, speed and performance of the new kit but............
The cost of the above new items was expensive, although Black Friday deals softened the financial blow.
However after purchase I watched some youTube videos about refurbishing my old 2013 iMac by installing an SSD Drive and ditching the old knackered hard drive.
It's a relatively easy job and the results are mighty impressive. Also the cost to do the refurb can be a low as £100.00 at least 10 times less than the new kit!
It pays to do your research before you get spendy on new stuff.
Oh well, guess what my next winter project will be.........
