John Deere 54" zero turn, Kawasaki Twin. No crank, and if I jumped the solenoid, crank but no start.

Chased a bunch of wiring, found a blown 20 amp fuse which I replaced, same symptoms. Decided to take a break on the no crank and have a peek at the carb as I suspected it wasn't getting fuel from that useless pulse pump Kawasaki uses. (I've replaced a bunch of them, should keep a few in stock...)

Got all the sheet metal off, looked hard at the carb and said "yeah...uh...nope, not diving into THAT briar patch!" Decided I'd put it all back together and have him take it to Mother Deere. Got it all back together, hopped on and tried the key just for shits and giggles and it cranked right up!

Onliest thing I can figure is that in the process of plugging and unplugging connectors I cleaned the pins enough to fix the problem and the blown 20 amp fuse probably included the fuel shutoff solenoid on the carb.

I have no pride, I'll take the win...

Ah the phantom repair.

The thing is forever after turning the key is a "will it work?" moment.
The skid steer did this to me, randomly blowing a fuse that would instantly lock all the controls mid dig! Kind of irritating til it finally got so bad I had no choice but to find it or dynamite the thing to hell. Lawn was littered with fuses before I got back to the shed. The problem from hell turned out to be a (too tight from the factory) zip tie on a wire bundle that internally squeezed out the insulation 'tween hot and ground wires. The good news is that damned thing was NOT down deep in the dirty diesel bowels of the machine.
