Dual VM32s

Hey folks,
What's the general consensus regarding two into one intake manifolds versus a two carb setup? I kinda like the one from rebel spirit

I'm considering one of these with a VM32 for ease of operation and tuning, or I'm considering dual VM32s.

What would years of experience say about this?

Why put a single on a twin?

I can't understand why anyone would go to the trouble of putting a single carb on a XS650? Seems pretty pointless to me when there's other stuff that can be done to definitely improve the old bike.

As I mentioned on another thread recently,
single carb sounds like a great idea, but I have heard it's painful to tune and get to run right, unless the engine is in a non-stock frame that doesn't have the single, upright tube abaft the engine.

With the tube in the way - and/or with most single carb intake manifold designs - you end up with unequal length runners. I even talked with Murray's at one point, and he said that's why they don't do a single carb kit for an XS650. FWIW.

And a 34mm is the usual size choice for the VM carbs on a 650. That being said, I prefer the originals. Properly renovated and tuned, I think they work just fine. I've managed to acquire a few extra sets over the years for spares.
