E Start vs Kick start

@All!!!:
But what ever you doo at the cableconnector: you must conter the slim nut under the cableshoe. allways in booth directions. tide ore untide, if not your risk that the cupperwiring inside get twistet and break apart.

I find a way to get the starter and the follow gearsystem up to the crankshaft find a new life.
I upgrade the starter with some work at my lathe , i change bearing & sealing to the modern art. i place a former + cable as Minus cable now directly from batteryminus to the starterrearplate.
Even a electronic softstartdevice made that my XS start with a 9ah battery without that "shattering geardestroying noise" ...

see the pictures below:

to avoid that the starter spread apart at 10000rpm without any counterforce, i just test the bearingdifference at 3Volts. it is a plus from 300 rpm and the amps doesent reach the 30amps.

The low amp would be more indication of free spin draw.... I am a little cautious to ask if the engine is actually turning over?.... don't jump on me for asking.

i told above : yes it work allready with just a tiny 9Ah battery ... an the current is above 10Volts

thank you for helping me, find the right words to complete my untrained scoolyardenglish:

in the freespin with the old/ original bearing need apprx. 35-40amps at even only 3-6-9-12v ... in freespin! so this "labratorywork" proof it works ...

Sounds like old skool shunt starter motor.
30 amps to freewheel?
Even that seems high, 500 watts at 12v=42 amps!

Gotta be a PM starter aftermarket
What? Did you ever measure the Amps while Starter is in Action? Its easy 150 + more. ...

read the last section ...

Please, may we concentrate here on XS 650 startermaintanance? The starter on a V12 diesellocomotive sucks 1000Amps ! Who cares?

I do Startermaintanance since 40 years. But after all the Rumors and all the halfknowledge even missmatching all the failiurse conclusion about ignition a.s.o. ...
I work now several weeks too upgrade the Hitachi to a better "second life" and find the way to make a warnout Starter better than before. Even the way the startingpower find a better more frictionless way to the crankshaft. That is what i want to reach and can be proof.
And NO it is not fore free ... who ever want to solve the E-Start problem ... let me know !

I would not expect more than 10 - 10.5 v during starter draw.
That's been my experience. I tested my '80 SG a few yrs back. Just spinning over with the TCI box disconnected to prevent starting, I was seeing about 10V at the battery.

That was with a fully charged battery, a good engine and a good starter.

Thanks for showing that Ampéretesting! which Type of Battery -> ?? Ah do you have installed ?
May you know the Revolutions at the Crankshaft while starting?
