Hi all,

I'm looking at purchasing an exhaust system from yamahaxs650.com for my 1978 xs650 special.

I'm looking at part number 07-0653 and 07-0757.

They say that 07-0653, which is designed for early xs650 standards, won't work with a special.

I know I should listen, but I'm looking for a small ID exhaust system, and this fits the bill.

Any reason why an early standard xs650 exhaust wouldn't fit a later special?

No, sorry I should have specified.
I'm putting exhaust on a 1978 Special.
yes, the pipes are advertised as replacements for 1970-1973 models.
Custom brackets I can handle, but will I have a problem with the pipes bolting up or hitting something?

The pipes will bolt to the exhaust ports with no problem. You will have to figure out a way to attach them to the frame. The existing frame mounts are not going to match up to the pipes.
I put a exhaust system(Ascot) designed for the Specials on a early frame(72), I made it work.
Came out ok.
