Engine case came in 500CC?

I purchased a used engine case off ebay and upon inspection i see next to the oil dipstick

"Oil-2 500cc" . Whats up with that? The stamping on the front of the case say
xs650-11XXXX. Could someone explain this to me. I googled some and see things about yamaha using a HOSK SOHC 500cc did they just continue to use that case or do these markings mean something entirly different.

ps I bought this play with my new powder coating setup. Only sot me 40 bucks.

When the engine is completely drained it takes 2500cc (about 2.7 quarts) of oil to fill it.

a least your 710 cap wasn't upside down or it would have been a real bugger to figure out
